Should I have a Wedding Photographer?
January 18th, 2019
If you are planning your wedding on a tight budget, one question you may ask yourself is, should I have a wedding photographer?
I met a lady recently, through my work as a Wedding Photographer based in the Leicester area. We got talking about weddings and she told me about her wedding day, back in 2011.
Her partner had asked her to marry him, following the discovery that they’d fallen pregnant with their first child and therefore the wedding planning was hurried and took place just six weeks after the proposal. How is that possible, I thought?
Wedding on a Budget
Well, the lady went on to explain, that they booked their local Registry Office in the suburbs of Leicester, for a Monday afternoon in the September. The groom wore a suit he’d bought twenty years prior, originally for a job interview. The bride had an off-the-peg dress; nothing fancy but well suited to their wedding and her growing bump! A friend – a florist, gifted the wedding bouquet and a single buttonhole for the groom. The lady did her own hair and make-up and there was no wedding car. Just ten guests attended and after the ceremony, everyone headed back to their house for a buffet, that the bride and groom had prepared themselves that same morning! When I asked if she’d missed having the all-important big white wedding, the answer was “No”. She’d married the man of her dreams and the day was perfect for them; exactly how they’d wished.
Budget Wedding Regrets
There was, however, six years later, one regret – they had had no Wedding Photographer attend, to capture their big day.
Consequently, as they’d relied on guests taking photos using mobile phones and pocket sized digitals, they now have no pictures worthy of display in their home. None they can use to create a canvas for the wall. There is no wedding album to show to their children and no photos of the bride with her late father, giving her away.
The whole day (minus the wedding rings), cost a grand total of £48.50 plus a few sandwiches and nibbles. Certainly, this was a budget wedding. But was the lesser price tag worth the regret, of not having a professional wedding photographer, capture the day? From speaking to this lady, I guess not. Are you asking yourself, “Should I have a wedding photographer”?
